PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent a portable telephone set or the like from malfunctioning without the need to perform excessive operations such as the setting/release of a key operation invalidating mode. SOLUTION: This portable electronic apparatus is provided with a capacitance sensor 30 flatly arranged on at least the surface of the case body of the portable electronic apparatus or the neighborhood of the surface, a means for checking whether or not capacitance change detected by the sensor 30 is caused in a predetermined area range and an input signal generating means for generating an operation input signal corresponding to the detection site of the capacitance change when the capacitance change is caused in the predetermined area range, and for not generating any operation input signal corresponding to the detection site of the capacitance change when the capacitance change is caused over the predetermined area range.
