PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder capable of recording a record content, e.g. an image, with high quality by applying pretreatment liquid uniformly. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a pretreatment means 2 for coating the recording surface of a recording medium 10 with pretreatment liquid, a recording means 3 for recording on the recording surface coated with pretreatment liquid by ejecting ink thereto, and a carrying means 4 for carrying the recording medium 10 along the longitudinal direction and introducing the recording medium 10 to the pretreatment means 2 and the recording means 3. The pretreatment means 2 has a gravure roll 20 and a backing roll 21 for pressing the recording surface against the gravure roll 20. The recording means 3 has a recording head 30 and a scanning mechanism 32 performing two-dimensional scanning using the recording head 30. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
