PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a recording head for high density perpendicular magnetic recording in which occurrence of noise is suppressed and recording density is improved. SOLUTION: A notch part of a taper shape or step shape is constituted at a side plane side shield 2 provided around a main magnetic pole 1. Further, a tracking side shield 3 is provided at a front side, The main magnetic pole 1 is made a nose shape in which a track tracking side is a taper shape and has the prescribed throat height. A throat part 11 of the main magnetic pole 1 and a tip part of the tracking side shield 3 have the prescribed interval. Also, in the throat part 11 of the main magnetic pole 1, a flat plane shape is made a rectangular shape, an upper part connected to the throat part 11 is made a funnel shape having tilt of approximately 60 degrees for a flat plane. When an appropriate side shield is used, a transverse writing ratio can be decrease to 0.11, and narrow off track magnetic field distribution can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
