PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber having surface roughness provided with a coating for improving adhesiveness to optical parts or the like. SOLUTION: The coated optical fiber 1 is constituted of a core 2a having a first refractive index, a clad 2b having a second refractive index different from that of the core 2a, an optical fiber coating layer 4 coating the circumference of a bare fiber 3 consisting of the core 2a and clad 2b, and a coated optical fiber coating layer 6 for coating the circumference of an optical fiber 5 formed with the optical fiber coating layer 4. The material of the coated optical fiber coating layer 6 is polyamide whose surface roughness [Ra] on the coated optical fiber coating layer 6 is 0.03μm≤Ra≤10μm, and the surface roughness [Ra] is formed in the circumferential direction and longitudinal direction. Thus, the optimal frictional resistance is generated on the surface of the coated optical fiber coating layer 6 to improve the adhesiveness to optical parts. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
