<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting diode for efficiently illuminating a wide range of flat space by improving the directionality in emission, by limiting to two-dimensional space in a specific direction from light being diffused and emitted with a light-emitting element as a center. <P>SOLUTION: In the light-emitting diode 21 having an element substrate 22, the light-emitting element 23 mounted onto the element substrate 22, and a sealing body 24 for sealing the light-emitting element 23, the sealing body 24 has respective emission surfaces on X, Y, and Z axes. When one emission surface on one coordinate axis of the X, Y, and Z axes is set to be a front emission section 24a, the front emission section 24a and second side emission sections 24d, 24e, that are other emission surfaces excluding the first side emission sections 24b, 24c adjacent to the left/right surfaces of the front emission section 24a, are shielded by shielding members 25a, 25b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
