<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed control device for an elevator, having simple construction permitting the speed of a passenger car to smoothly follow a desired elevator speed command and reducing uncomfortable vibration of the passenger car without the need for a car vibration detecting means. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a car vibration frequency computing means 8 for computing the vibration frequency of the passenger car from the position of the passenger car of the elevator and a detected value for a live load and a car vibration frequency component removing means 7 for removing a signal component corresponding to the computed vibration frequency of the passenger car from a speed command value for the passenger car set by a car speed command value setting means 1 and outputting the speed command value to a speed changing means 2.
