PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly perform an auto-focusing operation when panning or tilting is performed in an image pickup device having a pan/tilt function and capable of performing the auto-focusing operation. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a distance calculation means for calculating a distance to a subject based on focus amount by the auto-focusing operation, and a distance information storage means for storing image pickup direction information showing the image pickup direction of a device main body by panning operation and tilting operation and also distance information calculated by the distance calculation means. Furthermore, when performing focus searching operation by the auto-focusing operation, the information on the image pickup direction and the information on the distance to the subject are read out from the distance information storage means based on the image pickup direction of the device main body. Then, focus searching is restricted only in a range on the front side of the device main body from the distance in the distance information. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
