PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deal with a variety of temperature profiles, use ordinary air and not clean air, and minimize running costs in a continuous kiln used in technical fields such as carrying out baking and subsequent annealing of a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: Indirect air cooling means 5 and 6 having higher cooling power in a kiln width center part than in both side parts are provided in parallel with a work W conveyance face in an annealing zone of the continuous kiln. The indirect cooling means have a cooling pipe 5a array provided in a width center part of a top wall 2b of a kiln body 2. An axial direction of the cooling pipe 5a is in parallel with a conveying direction. A heating means 7 is provided in a bottom wall 2a of the kiln body 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
