PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote maintenance system capable of updating software of a distributing means easily and surely. SOLUTION: The system is provided with distributing means 2a and 2b connected to a public circuit or a LAN 3 and driven by current software and a maintenance center means 1 which is connected to the the public circuit or the LAN 3 and distributes a new version of software to the distributing means 2a and 2b through the public circuit or the LAN 3. The maintenance center means 1 has a software update information means 14 for managing version information for the driving current software of the distributing means 2, a storage means 13 for storing the new version of software, and an update information preparation means 11 for deciding on the basis of the version information whether or not the new version of software should be distributed to the distributing means 2a and 2b.
