An embodiment provides a method and apparatus for providing universal web access functionality to one or more electronic devices that lack web access functionality. The apparatus comprises: a plurality of configurable Input/Output ports for connecting to and obtaining status information about and sending control signals to one or more electronic devices; a network connection; and a web server configured to serve at least one first web page for configuring the plurality of configurable Input/Output ports and at least one second web page providing the status and control information about the one or more electronic devices via the network connection, the web server further configured to receive instructions for configuring the plurality of configurable Input/Output ports and instructions for controlling the one or more electronic devices via the network connection.
