<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing plate material which has sufficient impression properties, scratch/smudging resistance and exposure image visibility as a general-purpose processless plate and an imaging method which is free from fear about the smearing of the printing plate material of an onboard development type by a printing machine. <P>SOLUTION: In the printing plate material having at least a hydrophilic layer and an imaging layer sequentially formed on a substrate, the hydrophilic layer contains an electron-donative dye precursor and the imaging layer contains an organic electron-receptive developer.
