<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume-reducible biodegradable foam capable of lightening the burden necessary for daily garbage disposal in an ordinary household and the like, contributing to prolong the life of the reclaimed ground and an incinerator and to reduce the transportation cost of wastes and the like, and simultaneously reducing the load to the environment by allowing wastes even left in the natural environment as scattered wastes to be incorporated into the natural cycle, and a volume reduction method. <P>SOLUTION: The biodegradable foam is exposed to steam of 100-130°C to reduce its volume by≥50%.
