PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mounting structure of a scanning optical device in which positional adjustment of an image carrier, e.g. a photosensitive drum, and the scanning optical device can be carried out readily and accurately, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The mounting structure of a scanning optical device comprises an optical stay 80 being fixed rotatably with optical units 20M, 20C and 20K, an inclination adjusting plate 87 moving along a hole made in the optical stay 80 and engaging with the optical unit, a first initial position hole made in the inclination adjusting plate 87, and a second initial position hole made in the optical stay 80.
