<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light emitting element capable of improving direct light output efficiency, and contributing to the miniaturization of a semiconductor light emitting device using this. <P>SOLUTION: This semiconductor light emitting element is configured by successively laminating a first conductive semiconductor layer 2, an active layer 3, and a second conductive semiconductor layer 4 on one face of a supporting substrate 1. A second electrode 6 is arranged in the second conductive semiconductor layer 4, and a recessed part 11 is formed at the predetermined position of the active layer 3 and the second conductive semiconductor layer 4, so that the first conductive semiconductor layer 2 can be exposed, and a first electrode 5 is arranged in the first conductive semiconductor layer 2.
