PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel charging device capable of safely achieving quick charge of hydrogen gas in relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: This fuel charging device 1 is provided with a heat exchanger 4 for cooling hydrogen gas using liquid inactive gas. With the heat exchanger 4, hydrogen gas is heat-exchanged with liquid inactive gas, which is vaporized to provide inactive gas to be released in the fuel charging device 1. The hydrogen gas can thus be cooled by liquid inactive gas before it is charged to a fuel tank 13 in an automobile 12. Sharp temperature rise of hydrogen gas can be restricted to achieve quick charge. Since inactive gas by vaporization by heat taken from hydrogen gas is supplied to the fuel charging device 1, an inactive gas atmosphere can be formed in the fuel charging device. Explosion of hydrogen gas can thus be prevented, and charging work can be conducted safely. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
