A surface mounted lintel

A surface mounted lintel (1) which comprises one or two plates preferably having two rows of regularly spaced apertures (2) therein, the rows being offset such that the apertures form a repeating triangular pattern. The plates may be made from metal and treated to be corrosion resistant. In use at least one plate of the lintel is fitted to a wall (6) to support the wall whilst an opening (3) is formed in the wall below the plate, so that the use of additional props is not necessary.
