A mobile terminal, such as a telephone or personal digital assistant (PDA) which uses different clock (synchronising) signals to save power. Two aspects are described:

a) A mobile terminal in which a processor uses a variable synchronising signal and a display uses a fixed synchronising signal.

b) A mobile terminal in which a processor uses a variable synchronising signal and in which the terminal uses bus arbitration to resolve any conflict between normal processing and image display where the display uses data stored in a volatile memory.
