The rail support consists of a block (1), e.g. of concrete, moulded inside a rigid shell (10) made e.g. from a section of a metal, preferably steel, pipe. The shell fits in a container (8) that is set in a slab (9) and has a chamfered edge (12) to facilitate its insertion. The block has one or more reinforcing grids (11) inside it that are fixed to the shell and embedded in the block, which has rail fixings at the top. Flexibility is provided by spring steel fixing clips (5) and elastomer strips under the rails.
