An identification procedure for murine metalloproteases MCOL-A and MCOL-B and functions with the identity of mouse fragments of genes similar to sequences of genes of human proteases. The sequences of the fragments obtained are extended to the extremes 5' and 3' and the sequence of the cDNA clones generated is determined. The sequence identified is SEQ ID NO 1 and has been denominated Mcol-A.
