PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid automatic switch to a P range unnecessarily in a device for automatically switching an automatic transmission to the P range when a driver desires to stop a vehicle. SOLUTION: A shift range is automatically switched to the P range when a vehicle speed VSP is equal to or lower than a first predetermined speed VSP1, a parking brake is ON, a parking brake is ON after the accelerator opening full closed condition is detected, and the vehicle speed VSP is higher than a second predetermined speed VSP2 which is equal to or higher than the first predetermined speed VSP1 while the accelerator opening full closed condition is maintained.
