PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airtightness inspecting method for containers, particularly, for a tank and a tank aerator for an automobile, and to provide its device. SOLUTION: The method reduces the influences of the condensation of gas or a gas mixture 12 of liquid 11 existing in components of the containers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, particularly, in an elastic portion of the tank 10 on negative pressure or overpressure, controls the mass flow rate of the gas to achieve fixed negative pressure or overpressure in the container, estimates the existence of leakage in the tank and the tank aerator when the mass flow rate of the gas higher than a threshold value is measured, and calculates non-airtightness variables from the mass flow rate of the gas.
