The invention relates to a retractor for use during a medical procedure to provide a clear view of the field of the procedure. The retractor preferably comprises a handle having first and second coupling mechanisms, one of which may be used interchangeably with different surgical retractor blades, and the other which may be used to coupled a secondary surgical instrument, such as a light pipe or endoscope, to the handle.
