The transmission casing (2) has a raised portion (4) in the sump (3), reducing the amount of oil in the region of the sump in which it is likely to be recirculated due to the high circumferential velocity of the large gear wheel (1). The sump is thereby pacified, allowing dirt particles to settle on the bottom of the sump.
