The data traffic is guided from upstream or downstream bus users through the optical part of a bus coupler, so that the optical bus signals suffer only a small insertion loss, according to the material used. No auxiliary energy is required to be supplied by the bus coupler for the transport of these data. An Independent claim is included for an optical bus cross-coupler.
