A punching mechanism(7) with punch(8) separates the waste parts(1) from a container(2) and the separated waste part is retained by a holder(9) with a spike(10).Waste parts are sheared from the container by moving the holder and punch(8) towards each other. The holder deposits separated waste parts onto a collection and removal conveyer(11). The holder(9) may have more than one spike(10) which penetrates the waste part(1). A drive unit(12) controls horizontal movement of the spikes. A further drive unit(13) moves the punch(8), which is a plate or profile, horizontally. The holder comprises a horizontally movable pressure plate(14) which is moved towards the waste part and/or punch by a drive unit(15). Holes(16,17) in the punch plate and/or compression plate allow the spikes to pass through during detachment of a waste part from the spikes. Waste parts may be cooled by cooling the punch plate and/or compression plate. An Independent claim is included for a process for removing waste parts from thermoplastic containers during their production using the claimed equipment in which: a) the waste part is clamped between the pressure plate(14) and punch(8) and cooled; b) the punch moves forwards to shear the waste part from the container and transfer it to the holder; c) the holder and waste part retract; d) the waste part is stripped from the spikes and deposited onto the conveyer(11) by forward movement of the pressure plate.
