The lighting is formed of compact units comprising modular circuit boards on which light bulbs are mounted. A plastic section (1) is provided which receives a circuit board (3) on which are mounted one or more bulbs (5). The circuit board is fastened in position by means of lateral guides (7) and a fixing sleeve (6). A cover or light dispersing panel (10) or a planar cover plate (11) closes the unit at the front or the sides.
