PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module having a structure wherein a superior high frequency property can be obtained by reducing the inductance of a wiring which connects a semiconductor light emitting element and a driving element. SOLUTION: A first mounting member 5 has regions from a first region 5r to a fourth region 5s. The first region 5r is arranged lower than a second region 5q. A laser diode 9 is mounted on the second region 5q. The driving element 13 is subjected to flip chip packaging on the first region 5r. A retainer 23 for retaining a photodiode 25 is mounted on the driving element 13.
