Production of a metallic component, especially a vehicle body component, from a semifinished product (2, 3) made of non-hardened heat-deformable sheet steel comprises forming a component blank (10) from the semifinished product using a cold-forming process, especially a drawing process. The blank is trimmed at the edge to obtain an edge contour corresponding to the component being produced. The trimmed blank is heated and molded in a hot-forming tool and press-hardened. Preferred Features: The semifinished product is made of air-hardening steel alloy. A deep-drawing process is used to obtain the blank from the semifinished product.
