PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely shift from a pumping operation to a power generation operation of a pump turbine in a short time while inhibiting shaft run-out, vibration and hydraulic pressure pulsation. SOLUTION: In stopping pumping operation and shifting power generation operation, a generator motor shift is electrically separated from a system during pumping operation stopping operation, a movable guide vane 8 is fully closed and closing operation of an inlet valve 7 is started. When the inlet valve is fully closed or almost fully closed, the movable guide vane is opened to a full open position again.When a runner 1 stops, the movable guide vane is fully closed again. When the inlet valve is fully closed after that, the movable guide vane is set to a no load opening in power generation operation and shifts to power generation operation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
