Print machine has a control unit (15) for a printing mechanism (1) with a print plate and or an inking mechanism (3) with an ink supply device (13). The print machine also has a detection device (17, 18) for checking whether the correct print plate is inserted and or whether the correct ink is available in the inking mechanism. An Independent claim is made for a method for monitoring a print process in a print machine in which it is checked whether the correct print plate is inserted or the correct printing ink is available. According to the method the print plates are assigned a code so that it can be readily determined if the correct print plate is present or not.
