The invention comprises basic azo dyes of the general formula <FORM:1035775/C4-C5/1> in which Y represents the residue of a coupling compound free from sulphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups and A represents a monovalent anion. Such dyes are prepared by (a) diazotizing a 1,2-dialkyl-6-amino-indazolium salt of the general formula <FORM:1035775/C4-C5/2> where A represents a monovalent anion and coupling the diazo derivative thus obtained with a coupling compound free from sulphonic acid and carboxylic acid groups or (b) coupling the diazo compound of 6-amino-indazole or its 1- or 2-alkyl derivatives with a coupling compound free from sulphonic acid or carboxylic acid groups and treating the azo dyestuff obtained with an alkylating agent. In examples: An orange dye for acrylonitrile polymers is obtained by diazotizing 1,2-dimethyl - 6 - amino - indazolium hydrochloride and coupling with N-dimethyl aniline and isolating the product as a complex with zinc chloride (1) and the same dye is obtained by coupling diazotized 6-amino-indazole with N-dimethylaniline and heating the product dimethyl sulphate and isolating the product as a complex with zinc chloride. Many additional coupling components, e.g. resorcinol, pyrazolones and 3-hydroxydiphenyl-amine, are specified. |
