PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag having a simple structure and exhibiting an inflated and developed form permitting stable and accurate shock absorption and support of an occupant by relieving the local stress concentration and strength distribution in a vent hole peripheral portion when inflated and developed. SOLUTION: Opposite base cloths (2, 3) are sewed to be integrated on outer peripheral edge portions thereof. A part of the outer peripheral portions is provided with a non-sewed portion, which is defined as an air discharge portion (6). A part of an open peripheral edge portion of the air discharge portion (6) is arranged to extend toward a gas discharging direction to form a tongue piece like extended edge portion (8), and a sewed portion (7) extending along the outer peripheral edge portions of the opposite base cloths (2, 3) extends to this extended edge portion (8). The air bag, when inflated and developed, offers free behavior to the extended edge portion (8) so that the tensile strength applied during such expansion and development is dispersed and then relieved. The tearing of a sewing thread in the sewed portion (7), the damage of the base cloths (2, 3) due to the sewing thread and the like are eliminated, and the air discharge property is improved without subjecting additional treatments such as a reinforcing cloth or return sewing in the open peripheral portion (6).
