PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an incandescent dimmer that supplies sufficient power to the incandescent lamp even in transition through a main circuit with a thyristor, wherein luminous flux build up is not retarded and excess current resistance is reliable. SOLUTION: The dimmer comprises a main switch circuit 15 with thyristors 13 and 14 connected on an alternative power line 11 to the incandescent lamp 12; an auxiliary switching circuit 20 including a switching element 19 connected parallel to the main switch circuit 15; an auxiliary switching circuit controller 26 that linearly actuates the switching element 19 of the auxiliary switching circuit 20 in a zone just before ignited thyristors 13 and 14; a monitor 35 monitoring an output current for the incandescent lamp 12; and a timing signal generator 22 that generates and outputs the timing signal synchronized to the alternative power source to ignite thylistors 13 and 14 in the main switching circuit 15, and moves up the output of the timing signal when an output current greater than a fixed value flowed by the linear action of the switching element 19.
