PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop simple automobile seat occupation state identification into intelligent occupant classification to change an expansion characteristic of a smart airbag in response to a person and a situation, in a circuit device for occupant classification with at least one sound receiver installed in a seat. SOLUTION: This circuit device for occupant classification is characterized by disposing a sound transmitter at the seat in addition to a sound detector. Thereby, additional information can be detected by a transmitting/receiving circuit device. Such kind of information includes a propagation time analysis. By the propagation time analysis, the weight of an occupant can be estimated based on deformation of the seat. By the frequency shift of a transmission frequency, pressure imposed on the sound transmitter can be estimated as well. By an excitation spectrum of the sound transmitter, aged deterioration of the receiver can be estimated. In general, tenacity and certainty of the occupant classification can be improved by the circuit of this application. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
