PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop simple automobile seat occupation state identification into intelligent occupant classification to change an expansion characteristic of a smart airbag in response to a person and a situation, in a circuit device for occupant classification with at least one sound receiver installed in a seat. SOLUTION: This circuit device for occupant classification is characterized by disposing a sound transmitter at the seat in addition to a sound detector. Thereby, additional information can be detected by a transmitting/receiving circuit device. Such kind of information includes a propagation time analysis. By the propagation time analysis, the weight of an occupant can be estimated based on deformation of the seat. By the frequency shift of a transmission frequency, pressure imposed on the sound transmitter can be estimated as well. By an excitation spectrum of the sound transmitter, aged deterioration of the receiver can be estimated.
