PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size liquid crystal display device with little deterioration of the liquid crystal and high yield. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has an element substrate 301 having a driving transistor 313 for a pixel electrode 314 and a driver 304 driving the transistor 313, and a counter substrate 302 disposed opposing to each other and holding a liquid crystal layer therebetween. The driver 304 is arranged inside of a sealed area 303, and a light-shielding shield electrode 305 is formed to cover the driver 304. A recess is formed in the counter substrate responding to the protruding part produced by the shield electrode 305. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
