PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for adjusting optical elements, which optically couple two optical elements with high efficiency, and a method for manufacturing an optical device, and an optical unit. SOLUTION: The system for adjusting the optical elements is provided with a photodetecting lens 2, a condenser lens 3, a light quantity measuring instrument 4, a controller 5, a clamping tool 6, and a position adjusting mechanism 7. A second optical element 9 receives the light L emitted from a first optical element 8 at its one end surface, propagates the light L by an optical waveguide 9a formed therein and emits the light as exit light Lout from the other end surface. The controller 5 adjusts the optical axis positions of the first and second optical elements 8 and 9 and optically couples the elements 8 and 9 with high efficiency by adjusting the element 8 and 9 to the position of the maximal value of the periodic fluctuations of the light quantity by the reflection generated between the end surfaces of the elements 8 and 9 by using the light quantity data from the instrument 4 and the mechanism 7.
