PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand a write-in voltage operation margin for improving a write-in failure to be generated because the amount of activated particles in an address discharge period are excessive and assuring satisfactory display states in an AC type 3-electrode plasma display. SOLUTION: A blank period when a scanning electrode potential is set higher than a scanning electrode potential in an address period and a sustaining electrode potential is set lower than a sustaining electrode potential in the address period is set between the sustenance erasing period and the address period of one subfield and the length of the blank period is controlled by the number of sustaining pulses of a subfield immediately before.
