PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of suppressing supply of excess secondary air to increase a bed temperature of an exhaust catalyst up to a proper temperature. SOLUTION: The secondary air supply system comprises: an exhaust emission control catalyst 12 disposed to an exhaust system 10 of an internal combustion engine 1 to clean hazardous components in exhaust; a secondary air supply means 20 for supplying secondary air in the exhaust upstream of the exhaust emission control catalyst 12; an elapsed time calculation means 29 for calculating time that has elapsed since operation of the internal combustion engine 1 has stopped; and a secondary air supply prohibition means 28 for prohibiting the supply of the secondary air by the secondary air supply means, when the time from a previous stop to a present start of the internal combustion engine 1, which time has been calculated by the elapsed time calculation means 29, is within a predetermined time.
