PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injector for shortening the valve opening time and the valve closing time, and controlling a fuel injection quantity with high accuracy. SOLUTION: In the fuel injector, a magnetic cylindrical fixed portion 50 has a body portion 50a and a reduced portion 50b juxtaposed in the axial direction, and a coil 40 is disposed concentrically on the outer circumferential side of the fixed portion 50. In the fuel injection, the area ratio Sb/Sa satisfies the inequalities 2≤Sb/Sa≤0.9, where Sa is the sectional area of a section orthogonal to the axis O in the body portion 50a, and Sb is a sectional area of a section orthogonal to the axis O in the reduced portion 50b. Further, the dimensional ratio (Lb + Lc)/La satisfies the inequalities 0.1≤(Lb + Lc)/La≤1.0, where La is the length of the coil 40 in the axial direction, Lb is the length in the axial direction of the reduced portion 50b, and Lc is the distance in the axial direction between a nozzle side end face 40c of the coil 40 and a nozzle side end face 50c of the fixed portion 50.
