PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin care preparation for external use suppressing development of an irritation feeling of an alkylresorcinol and/or its salt and further enhancing the safety. SOLUTION: This skin care preparation for the external use is characterized by comprising (1) the alkylresorcinol and/or its salt and (2) a hydrating ingredient. The hydrating ingredient is characterized in that the hydrating ingredient is one or two or more kinds selected from a polymer having hydrophilic groups in the side chain, a graft copolymer having hydrophilic polymerization side chains, trehalose, a sulfated trehalose and salts thereof.
