<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a printing processing from being interrupted even if the directions of images required respective are incompatible with each other in an image forming apparatus capable of performing the printing by combining a plurality of printing modes. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus changeable of the direction of a print image according to a specified mode, if the printing involves index paper (YES in S101), the direction of the printing on an index relative to an image is specified (YES in S102), and, further, punching is specified (YES in S103), it is determined whether the punch specified position and the index specified position match or not (S104).
