PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion conductive material that is readily prepared and has excellent ionic conductivity, heat resistance and water resistance. SOLUTION: The composite material comprising polyorganosiloxane copolymers is prepared by a process involving the following 4 steps: (1) water is added to compound A represented by the formula: R<SB>m</SB>Si(OR')<SB>4-m</SB>(R, R' are each a 1-3C alkyl; m is an integer of 0-2) to proceed hydrolysis/polycondensation reactions; (2) on the way of these reactions, compound B represented by the formula: X<SB>n</SB>Si(OR")<SB>4-n</SB>(X is phenyl; R" is a 1-3C alkyl; n is 1 or 2) is added to carry out the reaction and further compound C represented by the formula: HS-Y-Si(OR'")<SB>p</SB>R""<SB>3-p</SB>(Y is a 1-5C alkylene, R"'and R"" are each a 1-3C alkyl, p is 2 or 3) and water added to proceed the following reactions of the compounds A and B, simultaneously the hydrolysis and polycondensation reactions of compound C are proceeded; (3) the resultant sol solution is solidified by drying; and (4) the mercapto groups in the solidified products are oxidized to sulfonic acid groups.
