PURPOSE: Provided is a basket type silsesquioxane resin with a (meth)acryloyl, glycidyl or vinyl group, which has controlled molecular weight distribution and molecular structure. A method for preparing the basket type silsesquioxane resin at high yield is also provided. CONSTITUTION: The basket type silsesquioxane resin with a functional group comprises 50 wt% or more of the basket type silsesquioxane resin represented by the formula of £RSiO3/2|n, wherein R is an organic functional group having any one of (meth)acryloyl, glycidyl and vinyl groups, and n is 8, 10, 12 or 14. The basket type silsesquioxane resin is obtained by hydrolyzing and condensing a silicon compound represented by the formula of RSiX3 (wherein X is a hydrolyzable group) in the presence of an organic polar solvent and a basic catalyst, and then performing recondensation of the resultant hydrolysate in the presence of a non-polar solvent and a basic catalyst.
