摘要 PURPOSE: A ternary intermetallic compound for the positive electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery and a lithium secondary battery containing the ternary intermetallic compound are provided, to improve the safety of an active material, thereby enhancing the performance of a battery. CONSTITUTION: The ternary intermetallic compound is represented by LiM1xM2yRzO2, wherein M1 and M2 are transition metals different each other; R is a transition metal or a metal of group 3A different from M1 and M2; x is 0.7-0.9; y is 0.1-0.3; and z is 0.02-0.05. Preferably M1 or M2 is any one selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, iron, copper and manganese; and R is any one selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, iron, copper and manganese or any one selected from the group consisting of aluminium, gallium, indium and titanium.
