PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which exerts sufficient practicality in spite of its compact configuration. SOLUTION: In the case of designing the digital camera 100 employing a single type dry cell battery 19 to have a shorter length in a longitudinal direction, since the single type dry cell battery 19 has an entire length greater than its outer diameter, it is desirable to locate the single type dry cell battery 19 so that its axial line is extended in a direction orthogonal to an optical axis of a lens unit 1 of the digital camera 100. In this case, the length of the lens unit 1 in the optical axis direction is troubling. That is, since the shape of the single type dry cell battery 19 depends on the standards, the length of the lens unit 1 in the optical axis direction is to be designed in matching with the shape of the single type dry cell battery 19. Thus, selecting the length of the lens unit 1 in the optical axis direction to be a multiple of 0.9 of the outer diameter of the loaded single type dry cell battery 19 or over permits a photographing optical system with sufficient optical performance, and selecting the length of the lens unit 1 in the optical axis direction to be a multiple of 1.1 of the outer diameter of the loaded single type dry cell battery 19 or below permits the digital camera 100 with a shorter length in the longitudinal direction.
