PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for information recording medium which controls the shape of textures correctly and raises magnetic anisotropy, and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A glass substrate 21 for information recording medium is formed into the shape of a disk having a cylindrical hole 21a at its center and a plurality of ridge-shaped textures prolonging to circumferential direction while drawing a concentric circle are formed on the surface of the substrate 21. When the surface form of the substrate 21 is measured in the measurement range of four quarters whose one side is 5μm by using an atomic force microscope, the number of ridges of textures which are observed at a position higher than the average line of measured roughness curve by 1.5nm is 200 or less. Moreover, the number of ridges of textures which are observed at a position higher than the average line of measured roughness curve by 2.0nm is 20 or less. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
