PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To demagnetize a permanent magnet used in a permanent magnet motor with a simple facility in order to prevent magnet pieces from attaching to the blade of a crusher or scrap iron when recycled. SOLUTION: The permanent magnet is demagnetized by applying an AC current that attenuates with time between predetermined terminals of stator and armature windings. The method includes the step of heating the permanent magnet motor under a predetermined temperature condition, and the step of applying an AC current that attenuates with time between the given terminals of the stator and armature windings. The predetermined temperature is set for the material constituting the permanent magnet of the permanent magnet motor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
