PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film, the method featuring that, when a resin film or the like coated with an active ray curing resin layer is subjected to saponification, the film has no curling after the treatment, the film is free from meandering after the saponification treatment or from displacement during lamination, the film has no intrusion of bubbles during lamination, the surface of the active ray curing resin layer has no minute irregularity in the film thickness, and therefore, high productivity is obtained, and to provide an optical film manufactured by the above method. SOLUTION: The optical film is manufactured by applying an active ray curing resin on a base material, irradiating the resin with active rays to form an active ray cured resin layer, and then forming an optical thin film layer thereon. The coating process is carried out in such a manner that while the active ray curing resin layer is not cured, a back coating layer applied on the back face of the base body is also not yet dried.
