<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal encoder of a reversible compression type which can sufficiently compress even a video signal inputted from a camera or the like and can completely decode the compressed signal into the original signal, a video signal decoder therefor, and a recording medium therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The encoder divides each pixel data (a) of the video signal corresponding to each time series frame and indicative of pixel brightness or color information at a predetermined bit position, into upper bit data (b) corresponding to the upper bits of the pixel data and lower bit data (c) corresponding to the lower bits of the pixel data; encodes the upper bit data on the basis of a prediction error from spatially adjacent pixel data; and encodes the lower bit data with such a minimum bit width that can avoid information missing of the lower bit data. Consequently, the encoder can perform its encoding operation by using the prediction error to the upper bit data as a main component. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
