A silencer system for the exhaust gasses from an IC engine in a vehicle has the final box (8) connected to the tail pipe (11) by a flexible connection (15) to minimise vibration transfer to the vehicle, and enabling the tail pipe to be mounted on the vehicle. The flexible connections include conventional flexible, heat resistant hose and sliding connections with a small gap between the outlet duct from the box and the tail pipe. The outlet from the final box can also be split between the flexible connection and tail pipe and a secondary outlet (23) direct from the box.
